Overview of Mature Student Admissions
The University of Ghana offers a dedicated admission pathway for mature applicants into its Distance Education Programmes. Successful candidates may be admitted into Level 100 (Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Education) or Diploma programmes, depending on their performance in the mandatory entrance examinations

 

Entry Requirements and Application Steps

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for admission under the mature student category, applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Age: Applicants must be at least 25 years old at the time of application.
  • Proof of Age: Candidates must provide an ECOWAS/National ID Card or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth that is at least five years old.
  • Work Experience: Applicants must have at least five years of working experience in a relevant discipline.
  • Academic Qualifications: Applicants must possess one of the following:
    • SSSCE: At least grade ‘E’ in six subjects, comprising three core subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) and three relevant elective subjects.
    • WASSCE: At least grade ‘E8’ in six subjects, comprising three core subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) and three relevant elective subjects.

The Admission Process

Admission via this route is a multi-step process involving an Access Course and a final competitive examination.

  • The Mature Access Course: All applicants must register for, attend, and complete the official University of Ghana Access Course. Only candidates who participate in this official course are eligible to sit for the entrance examination.
  • Entrance Examination: Following the Access Course, candidates must pass the Mature Entrance Examination conducted by the University.
  • Final Application: Only applicants who successfully pass the entrance examination will be eligible to purchase an e-voucher from designated banks to complete the official University of Ghana online UG Mature Applicants online application form.

Registration and Fees

  • Registration: Candidates should register online at the University of Ghana website (https://apply.ug.edu.gh/admissions/mature) and visit their chosen Learning Centre to complete the process.
  • Curriculum: For the exact curriculum or syllabus of the Access Course, contact the College of Education Academic Office or the Department of Distance Education
  • Fees: Registration fees for the Access Course and Entrance Examination are non-refundable. (Applicants should refer to the current year's flyer for the exact fee amount for Ghanaian and International students).
  • Payment Details: Payments are generally made into designated University of Ghana Learning Centre accounts at ECOBANK Ghana Limited

Course Structure and Locations

The Access Course is managed by the School of Continuing and Distance Education and is held at University of Ghana Learning Centres nationwide.

  • Weekend Schedule: Courses typically run on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Weekday Option: The Accra Learning Centre may offer a weekday evening schedule for interested candidates.
