General Admission Information

An applicant for admission to a degree programme at the University of Ghana must have at least credits (A1 - C6 in WASSCE and A – D in SSSCE) in English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science (for Science related programmes) or Social Studies (for non-Science related programmes) and three elective subjects in Science for applicants applying to Science or Agriculture related disciplines or three elective subjects in General Arts/Business for applicants applying to non-Science related disciplines, with the total aggregate not exceeding 30. In addition, Science applicants should have at least a grade C6 in WASSCE/D in SSSCE in Social Studies/Life Skills and non-Science applicants should also have at least a grade C6 in WASSCE/D IN SSSCE in Integrated Science/Core Science For regular undergraduate admissions, a minimum aggregate of 24 is mandatory.

Admission cut-off points refer to the minimum scores or qualifications required for entry into specific programs or courses at the University of Ghana. These cut-off points are determined by the university and can vary from one program to another. Pls note that this will be influenced by the current year's performance as well.

In the calculation of aggregates, Integrated Science will be used for Science programmes and Social Studies for non-science programmes. However, all applicants must have at least credit passes (C6) in both Integrated Science and Social Studies.

Admission Decisions

The admission timeline for undergraduate admissions at the University of Ghana can vary by programme and the type of entry (e.g., regular, distance education, etc).

In general, undergraduate applicants can expect to receive admission notifications between the date after the date of closure of the application portal until the day before Matriculation. In a normal academic calendar, this will be between March and June for the academic year beginning in August or September. However, specific dates may change from year to year, so it's essential to check the university's official website or contact the admissions office for the most up-to-date information.

Successful applicants will receive a text message based on the contact details they provided. If not, they should check their admission status using this link https://apply.ug.edu.gh/admissions/admissionstatus. You can enter your credentials such as your surname or application serial number to check the status of your applications. You may also check on the application portal. Other vital notices may be sent via SMS text message as well.

Download your provisional admission letter by entering your Serial Number and PIN. Carefully read the instructions on your admission letter. Once satisfied, you can make your fee payment at the bank. Continue checking the University website for new announcements regarding accommodation, orientation, registration, matriculation, and lectures.

I purchased the UG e-voucher via the USSD code, but my money was deducted, and I did not receive my Serial No and PIN. What should I do?
In case you do not receive an SMS after a successful transaction, you can retrieve the e-voucher by following these steps:

  1. Dial *887*9#.
  2. Select "Yes".
  3. Choose "Retrieve E-Voucher".
  4. The details of the E-Voucher will be displayed, including University of Ghana, Serial Number, and PIN.

Yes, you can revisit your application form as many times as necessary until the publication of the May/June WASSCE results. This allows you to view or make changes.

Yes, you can make changes. The University application portal will remain open for a few days after the release of the 2023 May/June WASSCE results to allow applicants to review their applications and make the necessary changes. Applicants must ensure their Biographical Data, WAEC Index Number, year and month of the examination are correct.
